Description

Today's truffle activity of the Karlić family from Paladin, near Buzet, was started by Mr. Ivan Rašpolić in 1966. At that time, the Motovun forest was much larger than it is today. White and black truffles found in the area were considered the highest quality truffles in Istria.

With the help of 12 dogs (7 top, and 5 in the training studio), some of which are crossbreeds (through many years of work they noticed that these dogs are more resistant to disease, rain and low temperatures), and some purebred, go truffle hunting every day. There is no fixed work schedule, which means that any member of the family can go hunting with dogs, be it a son, mother or father; it is important, of course, to maintain their as well as the dog’s daily training.

Many years of experience of the Karlić family in picking truffles, which was passed down from generation to generation, resulted in the establishment of the company GIR d.o.o. 1994, which is dedicated to "truffle hunting", buying and selling fresh and frozen truffles and processing and marketing in domestic and foreign markets.
